The following tutorial will show you how to create a simple custom signature that you can use in emails and in online groups. This tut should be easy to follow using Paint Shop Pro v.8 or v.9.

custom sig

1.)To get started we need to open a new 300x300 blank raster image with a background color of your choice. (I usually try to choose a color that will match the background of where I plan to post the signature.)

**You can save this image as .gif w/a clear background. Gif files do not support as many colors as JPG files do so you may lose the quality of your image depending on the colors you choose and if you use drop shadows or not.

2.) Go to Layers and add a new Raster Layer. Keep this layer highlighted on your layer pallette and choose your Font tool. (this will be the tool w/the letter A on it.)Below are the settings that I used. Choose your favorite font, color and font size. Colors can be chosen by going to the color pallette and choosing the bottom color (background and fill properties) and then choose your color choice and click O.K.

3.) Your text will now have a marquee (a.k.a. Marching Ants) around it. Now go to Effects and then Inner Bevel. Below are the settings that I used. After you choose your settings click O.K.

4.) Go to Effects and choose Drop Shadow. Below are the settings that I used. After you are done click O.K.

5.) Go to Selection and Select None. You are now finished and can save your new custom signature.

In order to use your image on a web page and, many of the chat groups, you will need to upload it to your own hosting space. Many Internet Service Providers (ISP) offer free space to their customers. You can also find free and pay hosting sites online.
