In our first tutorial I showed you how to cut out the background in a picture. In this tutorial I'll show you how to replace the background with a new background. When you finished the last tut you should have ended up with a picture that looked something like the one pictured below.

iris pic w/no background

1.)To get started we need to add another layer to our project. Go to your layer pallet and click on the new raster layer icon as shown in the picture below.

2.) When the new window opens click on the space where it says "name" and type in background and then click O.K.

3.)Now right click on your Raster 1 layer and go to Rename and name this layer flower pot.

4.)Now we need to arrange the layers so that your background layer is on the bottom. Right click on your Background layer, click on Arrange and then click Move Down. You will now have your Flower Pot layer on top of your Background layer.

5.)Now we are ready to fill in the new background. First make sure that your Background layer is highlighted on your layer pallet. Now find your bucket fill icon (pictured below) and the click on your Color Pallet. You can choose a new color, pattern or gradient for your fill. Place your bucket on top of your background and fill it in. You should now have a new background color.

6.)(optional) Go back to your layer pallet and click on your "Flower Pot" layer. Then go to Effects > Drop Shadow and play around until you get the desired effect.

7.)Go back to your layer pallet and highlight your Flower Pot layer and right click. Choose Merge > Merge Visible and then save your project as a .gif or .jpg.
**Tip** You may want to save your project as a .psp image before merging in case you might want to play with the layers again.
