Here is a simple explanation on how to use the Materials Palette in Paint Shop Pro v.8 and v.9. For a more detailed explanation go to your PSP. v.9 user guide on page 233 or in PSP v.8 on page 81.
Above is a picture of the open Materials Palette. When you first open PSP v.9 you will see this image to the right of your screen:
If this is not what you see try clicking on F6 and it should pop up.
Hover your mouse over the closed material palette and you will see this:
Notice the two boxes towards the bottom of the picture. One has the color red. This is your foreground & stroke properties. The second one has this ( ) on it. That means the color is turned off. The blank box is your background & fill properties. Occasional you will want to turn off one or the other color while working with a project.
Now pick one of your color boxes and click on it. You should now see the following material box on your screen:
The following will be a brief explanation of the material palette functions:
Color, Gradient, or Pattern- At the top you will see three tabs you can choose. The Color is displayed on top. The Gradient is where your gradients are stored and can be adjusted to suit your needs. The Pattern tab is one that you will use a lot when working with glitter, floating and other fills. Here is a screen shot of the Pattern tab opened:
Notice the 1st four choices are images that were opened in my work space. Anytime you want to use an image as a fill just have it open in your work space and then go into Patterns and choose that image.
Back to Colors- You can choose your color by entering the HEX code, color code, picking from the color palette or you can hover your mouse onto another image, already opened on your desktop, to activate the dropper tool. With the dropper tool you can pick out a color from a photo, screen shot or any other image. See screen shot below:
Textures- You can click on the textures box to apply a texture to your color. Use the drop down box to choose your texture.
You now have enough information about your materials palette to get started on some easy tutorials. Have fun creating with Paint Shop Pro!
